What is a hero? A hero is someone that tries hard to achieve goals, someone that keeps trying. It doesn't matter how many times she or he has to attempt it, in order to overcome that challenge. Ana Guevara is an example of a hero, that's why I chose her!

Ana Gabriela Guevara was born on March 9, 1977, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. She is a track and field athlete that while still quite young, started practicing a lot, in order to get to where she is today; the best Mexican runner and one of the best around the world in the 400 meters.

She started winning in 1998, when she won her first silver medal in the Central American and Caribbean games. In 1999 she won a gold medal in the Pan-American Games in Canada. This achievement gave her the opportunity to participate at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where she finished in 5th place. In 2005 she set a new personal record of 48.89 seconds, and she became the woman with the 9th fastest time in history!

With all her winnings and records, she has elevated the name of Mexico and taken first place in several races. This is why I admire her most.

Unfortunately for all Mexico, she announced her official retirement from the field on January 16, 2008.

Ana Gabriela Guevara will always be remembered by all Mexicans because of what she has done, and she will always be in our hearts because she became the number one runner in Mexico and several times the best in the world.
