Young Agustin de Iturbide (This picture is from)

Agustin de Iturbide was born in Morelia, Mexico, on Sept. 27, 1783. He was executed on July 19 1824. He helps México gain its independence from Spain on Sept. 16 1824. He was born of a crillo mother and a Spanish father. One of the reasons I choose this person was because as a young boy it is said that he was very intelligent for his age and that he understood the problems going on with Mexico and Spain. He had better education than usual Mexicans; he had studied at a religious school. Another reason I choose him is because than he decide to join the military at a young age, around seventeen years old.

Iturbide received a commission in the royal militia. This was one of his great accomplishments. He had great courage that encouraged others to join him. His army became strong and powerful. He had great battle plans that helped him quickly gain Military rankings. He than became the Emperor of Mexico from May 1822 to March 1823.

During the campaigns against the liberal revolutionaries, he did numerous daring actions. He wanted more form policy for Mexico to help win its independence. He and General Llano led a revolt against Jose Maria Moreles the one that took over after Hidalgo. Hidalgo was also known as the Mexican father of independence. He fought many battles against strong armies. He became very powerful not letting the media back then criticize him. He also dismissed México's legislature.

Central American states decided to make their own government. In 1823 Argentina, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua separated from Mexico and formed their own little nation. Iturbide's government collapsed when he no longer had the power.

Most wanted a new plan of government. Some wanted a federal republic. On Feb. 24, 1821. He was a good hero because Iturbide launched his own revolt by issuing the Plan of Iguala. This plan guaranteed three things; the independence of Mexico, the same rights for Spaniards and crillos (Mexican mix). The last thing that the new plan guaranteed was the supreme power of the Catholic Church. My hero is Iturbide because of his brilliant courage and the wonderful success that made him the idol of his soldiers.

It is so hard to find heroes these days. I decide on Agustin de Iturbide because he was a great leader. He accomplished something great during the years he was alive. Agustin de Iturbide is a good example of a philanthropist. Philanthropy is something, such as an activity or institution, intended to promote human welfare. Agustin de Iturbide was one of those few men that wanted to improve the welfare of his county.
