Abraham Lincoln

by Emily from Atglen

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a little log cabin that had only one window and one door, in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was our sixteenth president, the first to have a beard. Here is some more about Abraham Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln made some really big accomplishments, here are three. When Abraham became president he built the Republican Party into a very strong, national organization. On January 1st 1863 he issued the Emancipation Proclamation that declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy. Abraham also won the re-election in 1863, as Union Army triumphs heralded an end to the war. Some obstacles Abraham Lincoln had to overcome are sad, here they are. Abraham and his family had to struggle for a living when he was young, and when he was old enough he married Mary Todd and had 4 boys together, sadly 2 died at a very young age, one died at an older age around 16, and only one of their children lived to maturity.

Here are some traits that make Abraham Lincoln a hero. Abe was perseverant, he always kept on trying in spite of difficulties. Once he ran against Stephen Douglas for senator, but lost, so Abraham tried again, but this time he won and became president. Gallantry, Abe had a lot of heroic courage, he had to struggle for a living, but he was courageous and believed, he also was captain in the Black Hawk War. Fortitude, Abraham met danger with courage when he was the captain in the Black Hawk War; he fought and was so brave through it all.

Here is why Abraham Lincoln is a hero to me. Abe Lincoln is a hero to me because he built the Republican Party and when I am able to vote, I would vote for the Republican president. I will do some things that Abe did and follow some of the things he did if I ever become president. Abraham Lincoln will always be a hero in my time.
