Abraham Lincoln's life started February 12, 1809 and ended on April 15, 1865. Abe lived in many different places, he lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Washington, DC. He tried to help the slaves by freeing them, he also helped our country at the time that he was our president. He wanted to help the slaves because it wasn't fair to them. He hated slavery. Even though it was the Civil War's job to end slavery he wanted to be the one to end both.

My first reason that I am going to focus on is why he is my hero is because he wanted to help free the slaves. This meets my definition of a hero because if he hadn't freed the slaves the world would've have had this terrible institution for much longer. He knew that the main job of the Civil War was to end slavery but he wanted to be a part of ending it. A reason he wanted slavery to end was because he hated it so much. A way he tried to help was persuading them to end and bribing them. Abe was part the reason they had the Civil War because he made the war become a fight to free the slaves. He played a big impact on the slave's lives because he gave them back freedom. A good quote that shows that he doesn't like freedom is "As I would not be a SLAVE so I would not be a MASTER. This idea expresses my idea of democracy- whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy-" Abraham Lincoln.

The next topic that I am going to focus on is that he was considered to be the best president ever. This matches my definition because what he did made him so good. An example of one thing he did was leading his country through the civil war. Another good thing that he did was help free the slaves like I mentioned above. The last reason that he’s believed to be one of the best is that he tried to make his country stand out among others. This impacted others because he could've been the president who sat in the corner and didn't want to help his country but he did his best and really tried to change the world so that many people would look up to him. A quote that shows he was trying his best is this one: "I will prepare and some day my chance will come." -Abraham Lincoln

He is a legacy because he really did change the world. So many people look up to him. He is known for freeing the slaves and helping prevail over the Civil War. He also is considered one of the world’s best presidents. He tried to put an end to slavery because he believed that it wasn’t fair and no one should have to be put through that, actually he hated slavery. I think that if Abraham Lincoln hadn't been our president this country would be a mess. This is why I chose Abraham Lincoln to be my hero.

One thing that Abraham Lincoln would probably say to us that, if at first you don’t succeed, just keep trying because when he ran for president no one really liked him and he wanted to give up but his dream was to become the president and so he didn’t give up. Also he was determined to help free the slaves and end the civil war and he tried very hard and it eventually happened.

The question that everyone always wants to know is what a hero is. My definition of a hero is someone who has changed the world to make it a better place and also someone you can look up to. The person I thought matched this definition well was Abraham Lincoln.
