Abraham Lincoln

My 19th century hero is Abraham Lincoln. He was a U.S. president. He was born in 1809 and was a 19th century hero. He was the greatest leader of the would. He preserved the union and abolished slavery so African Americans had rights! Abraham is a hero because everyone knew he had courage and did the right thing. Over 25,000 people went to his grave because he helped a U.S crises.

Abraham Lincoln was born in Hardin during 1809! He moved to Illinois and became a hero there. He was helping all the people that were slaves. He wanted to stop the civil war and have all blacks become unenslaved. He signed the homestead act which gave him 160 acres of land. It was nice for him to give farmers this land and save them from other sorts of problems.

He stood up for the civil rights when no one else would and became president of the United States. He also tried to abolish slavery. He did this by making all blacks have rights and not be controlled by their owners. He led his country through the greatest crises. Abraham Lincoln spoke the Gettysburg Address stating that the U.S. will re-emphasize the democracy. Then he issued the Emancipation Proclamation which stopped slavery. He showed caring, respect and dedication to the U.S.

His legacy was saving the Union, freeing slaves, and got the idea from the Declaration of Independence. So that means his legacy is not having slaves in the United States or problems that would lead to another war. So no one has slaves owners anymore. Abraham also stayed true to his country.

Today's youth I hope would never have to go back to the way it was before. A great man named Abraham stopped slavery and if he never did this, today would be a disaster. Maybe no one else would step up and try to prevent it. Only those few people that stand up for the right thing by stopping something bad is what's called a hero. A man of courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities that make him or her do the right thing is a hero. Abraham Lincoln did these things and to me and many people he is a hero!
