Abraham Lincoln

by Anthony from Detroit

My report is about a great man and leader. Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809 in Kentucky. At the age of seven his family moved to the state of Indiana. At the age of 21 Abraham moved to the state of Illinois. Abraham married a lady called Mary Todd in 1842. Abraham and Mary Todd had four sons.

Lincoln moved to a village called New Salem, Illinois. Lincoln joined the town’s debating society and helped him learned better grammar. Then in 1832 Lincoln decided to run for state legislature. Lincoln was a part time general when the store failed he had a debt of $1,100 and promised to pay it back. He got a reputation for being honesty for paying the debt.

Lincoln thought of becoming a lawyer, but he thought he hadn’t had a proper education to be a lawyer. Lincoln traveled with other lawyers in small cases and big ones. When Lincoln was elected president. Southern states seceded or broke away. Lincoln urged the South not to start a war.

Southern troops a month later attacked Fort Sumter. The Civil War had begun. The North thought the Civil War would end soon. President Lincoln signed a paper called the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. The Civil War was over.
