Abraham Lincoln has walked miles to pay back a woman, refused to be paid by a poor woman when he didn’t have much money himself, and fought soldiers to save the life of a man. Can you name a person that would do these things? Abraham Lincoln is the only person I can think of. Lincoln had a few jobs before he was president. I chose Lincoln as my hero because he is honest, kind, and brave.

One job Lincoln had was that he worked in a store. A woman came and bought something but Lincoln overcharged the woman six cents. It was because of this that Lincoln was called “Honest Abe.” Instead of keeping the money, Lincoln walked three miles to return the money. Another time a man bought tea and Lincoln left some on the scale while pricing it. Lincoln walked a long distance to return the tea.

Lincoln’s next job was as a lawyer. He often advised people to resolve their matter out of court to save them money. There once was a very poor lady who was charged four-hundred dollars by a pension agent. Lincoln sued the agent and won the case. Lincoln didn’t have much money but was kind enough to refuse to be paid. He even paid the lady’s hotel bill and bought her a ticket home!

Lincoln became president, and was with some soldiers who caught an Indian man. The soldiers said that the man was a spy and wanted to kill him. Lincoln didn’t want the man to be killed so he stepped between the soldiers and the man. The soldiers called Lincoln a coward so Lincoln bravely fought them. Lincoln fought them for a man who he didn’t even know and won.

Lincoln is my hero because he was truthful, compassionate, and courageous. I chose Lincoln over everybody else because he is my favorite president. I wish I was more like him. I admire Lincoln for being so unselfish and considerate. His kindness helps me to become a better and nicer person.
