Abraham Lincoln

Some people do not think Abraham Lincoln is a hero but I think so. A hero is somebody that puts others before themselves. The dictionary defines a hero as a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities. Abraham Lincoln is the greatest hero in the world to me.

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He lived a simple life with his family when he was a child. He was a county lawyer, Illinois state legislator, and a member of the United States House of Representatives. He spoke out against slavery in the United States of America; he was credited for freeing the slaves.

Lincoln won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected President later that year. He promoted the passing of the Thirteenth Amendment which states that all men are created equal. The Thirteenth Amendment was added to the Constitution in 1863.

"Six days after a large-scale surrender of confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee, Lincoln became the first American President to be assassinated. Lincoln has consistently been ranked by scholars as one of the greatest of all U.S. Presidents." These and many other reasons are why Abraham Lincoln is my hero.
