Aleqsandre Qartvelishvili

My hero is Aleqsandre Qartvelishvili, a Georgian aircraft engineer who was the pioneer of America’s aviation. He was born to a very famous family in Tbilisi, Georgia, and his parents did everything for their beloved son. In 1922, he finished aviation school in Paris and worked for the distinguished French aviator Lui Blerio’s company, where he took part in designing the airplanes “Bernard” and “Ferbois”. In 1924, one of Qartvelishvili’s planes beat the world record of speed.

In 1927, the famous American multimillionaire Charles Levin invited Qartvelishvili to New York, and in 1928 he began working for the famous "Fokker American Company”. Qartvelishvili designed several airplanes including the “Republic P-47”, which played a significant role in World War II. After the war, he continued designing aircraft such as the “F-84 Thunderjet”, “Republic F-105” and “Republic F-84”. Georgian aircraft engineer Aleqsandre Qartvelishvili was awarded America’s National Medal of Science. He died in 1974 in New York.

Aleqsandre Qartvelishvili is my hero, not only for his inventions, but for the great talent that he used to help American people.
