A hero is usually defined as a person who has performed a heroic act and is thought of as a role model or an ideal person. Normally this is a person with courage and abilities that other people admire. A hero is someone that protects you and tries to keep danger away. A hero is someone that cares for you, and if they ever disappoint you, they do whatever is needed to make things right. A hero is an encourager. They will encourage you to reach for the stars and never give up on your dreams. Some people think of famous people like football players as heroes, but when I think of a hero, I think of my mom. The following are some of the reasons that my mom is a hero to me.

My mom is an Oncology Nurse. She spent 15 years taking care of very sick and dying people. That is a very hard job. Even though not every life was saved, there were many lives that she did help to save. She received a lot of recognition at work, and she eventually was promoted to be the Nurse Manager of the Oncology Unit. She trained many of the nurses that worked there. She held education classes and encouraged them to be the best that they could be.

My mom also cares for me, my brother and my sister. She always tries to help all of us with whatever we need help with. Like when I have questions about school or life in general, she is always happy to try to answer them. I know that I can ask her anything and if she doesn't know she will help me find the answer. She has always been there for me, and I know if I ever need her, she will not leave my side.

My mom is not perfect and has made mistakes. She tries to use her mistakes to show me what not to do, and she uses her successes to show me what to do. My mom shows me strength by not giving up herself when times are hard. She keeps a positive attitude and just keeps working toward her dreams. So, when she tells me not to give up on dreams, I listen! She teaches me the right things to do and is patient when I mess up. She is slow to anger and sometimes it makes me mad that she is so calm, but I don"t want her to ever change!

These are just some of the reasons my mom is a hero to me. I admire her, and I want to make her proud. I hope that she knows what a good influence she has been on me. I hope she knows she is my hero. She may not be famous, but she has done so much for me, my family and other people. She shows courage, strength and caring on a daily basis. Those are qualities of a hero.
