Ang Lee

Ang Lee became well-known for the film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. But success didn't come overnight. After getting his Master's Degree, he stayed at home cooking meal, taking children to school for six years because he couldn't find a job. When he finished "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon," he became one of the most famous directors in the world. In 2005, with "Brokeback Mountain," he captivated both critics and audiences in the world. Now everybody looks forward to his next movie.

Ang Lee was born in Taiwan on October 23, 1954. His father was a principal in high school. When he was ten, their family moved from PingTung to Hualien because of his father's job. After eight years, their family moved to Tainan again. Ang Lee studied in National Tainan First Senior High School. He didn't have any interests in studying. He just wanted to be a director. He flunked a competitive examination for university twice. As a result, he entered art junior college.

After Ang Lee left the army, he got both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the USA. However, he didn't have any chance to make a film. He stayed at home for six years until he got a chance to direct the movie "Pushing Hands." Afterwards, he went on to direct "Wedding Banquet," "Eat Drink Man Woman," "Sense and Sensibility" and the most famous one, "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon."

After "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" won him Oscar Best Foreign Language Film, Ang Lee has become one of the most famous directors in the world. "Hulk" and "Brokeback Mountain" are hits at the box office.

Because of Ang Lee, the entire world knows about Chinese filmmaking and Chinese films. He also lets everybody know that hard work makes people succeed. He never confines himself. That is why Ang Lee is my role model.
