| Susan B. Anthony (http://www.gccschool.org/freedom/people/sbanthony. (Margo)) |
Susan B. Anthony was born February 15, 1820. She was raised in a Quaker household and went on to work as a teacher before becoming a leading figure in the women's voting rights movement. Susan believed that it was morally right for women and men to have the same/equal rights. She was inspired to do what she did because she was always surrounded by people who believed in equal rights and fighting for what you believe in. Anthony paved the pathway for the 19th Amendment, which was giving women the right to vote. However, this amendment wasn't passed until after she passed away. Susan died on March 13, 1906. Without Susan B. Anthony it would have been a while before women would be able to vote.
| Malala Yousafzai (http://live.worldbank.org/experts/malala-yousafzai (Live World Bank)) |
Malala Yousafzai was born July 12, 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan. At a young age, Malala became an advocate for girls' education. The Taliban did not believe that girls should have the right to an education. However, Yousafzai disagreed and fought for girls' rights to an education and to learn. The Taliban did not like this and found Malala as a threat. Therefore, on October 9, 2012, while Malala was walking to school, a gunman shot at her. She survived with a few injuries and continues to speak against the importance of equal education for both genders. Malala and her father started a fund to bring awareness to the impacts of girls' education and to motivate girls to make a change if that is what they wanted.
Susan B. Anthony and Malala Yousafzai were both very influential women in history. I chose both of these figures because they fought for what they believed in. I also chose them because I also do believe that women do not have the same rights as men in certain areas. I was exceptionally inspired by Malala because she fought for what she believed in at such a young age, even when there were people with a higher power than her telling her not to. I believe that their messages could have been spread through social media and through the internet. I also believe that their messages could be spread through teachers teaching this subject to students. I would implement a change in society by making people aware of the issues that occurred and the issues that are still currently occurring.
