Bullet For My Valentine

by Jayj from Newark

You might ask why I chose a band as my hero, why not my family? or friends? It's funny actually. When I was younger I was always teased for every single thing I did, by people and especially my family. I wanted an escape from reality even though if it was for 3 minutes. I just wanted to drown my emotions in songs rather than other things. I discovered them back in 04 when they were still not as famous. When I heard Just another star, Curses, and no control my jaw was to the floor.

I thought to myself I finally found something I can relate to. Each lyric spoke to me. It was like they were singing to me (that sounds so cliché I know). My mother didn’t approve of what I was listening to. “a young lady shouldn’t be listening to such trashy music”. I just laughed and went in my room. If she only knew how many times they stopped me from harming myself. She knew I wasn’t happy, but she just didn’t care.

Jeff Killed John was the forerunner band to Bullet for My Valentine and was formed in 1998 by Matthew Tuck, Michael "Padge" Paget, Nick Crandle, and Michael "Moose" Thomas. The bassist gave up on them and was replaced by Jason “Jay” James. The band then changed their name to Bullet for My Valentine and reworked their musical strategy; they decided to play thrash metal songs with "harmony guitars and big angelic choruses" according to frontman Tuck. found on http://ultimatebullet.com/

"Bullet for My Valentine lives and dies by Matt Tuck, The young lead vocalist and guitarist is capable of driving the band to massive success or dragging them into total collapse, and nothing is more evident of this than the contrast between their debut album, The Poison, and its follow-up, Scream Aim Fire. The Poison was one of the biggest metalcore albums on the decade and helped to revitalize the entire subgenre when it was released. Scream Aim Fire was a decent album, but nowhere near as good as its predecessor, owing mostly to two factors: the lack of Tuck’s screaming vocals due to his emergency tonsillectomy in 2007, and some rather uninspired compositions that did not live up to his potential. The band’s third album, Fever, somewhat maintains the level of quality that Scream Aim Fire had, but doesn’t advance back to their prior level of excellence." - unknown http://www.wakingthedemon.bplaced.net/News_E.html

Ever since I found BFMV I was in love with metal. They opened my eyes to many other genres of music. Also bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, The Ramones, and Rancid. With each and every song they make they just seem to impress me more and more each time. I am what you call a dedicated fan. When I wear their shirts I feel proud (sounds weird but I don’t care what people think) People may judge me saying, “Ohhh that band sucks blah blah blah”. It doesn't bother me. It's other people's opinions on whom they want to listen to.
