Billie Joe Armstrong

by Edgar from Tampico

A hero is a person that means something to you, a person that has inspired you to do something. Hi! My name is Edgar Díaz and I’m going to talk about Billie Joe Armstrong a guitarist/lead vocals of the greatest band on world(for me) GREEN DAY.

He was born in Rodeo, California. His father, Andy Armstrong, was a truck driver and a jazz musician who died of cancer in September 1982. When Billie was 10, his mother worked as a CEO at the same restaurant Billie worked when he was a teenager. He has loved music since he was 5 years old. His mother took him with the old ones so he could sing some songs to them. In 1982 he met his now best friend Mike Dirnt, together they played some songs of musicians both like. That same year, he received the last gift from his father, his 1st electric guitar, which he named “blue”.

When he was 15 he heard his first PUNK song, since then, he loved PUNK music. In 1988 Billie formed a band with Mike Dirnt and another friend and named it Sweet Children. But, before they recorded their first album his drummer left the band, and entered Tre Cool so they changed the name to Green Day. In 1994 he married his now wife Adriene Nesser. In 1995 he had his first son, 3 years later he had another one. In his last album he expressed the unfairness of president U.S.A. to make war against Iraq, also they talked about many other political problem.

Now (2008) he lives in Oakland, California, with his family. He is co-owner of Adeline records. He also continues to being guitarist/lead vocals of GREEN DAY.

Now he has accomplished the best concert he has ever given. At Milton Kenynes National Bowl in London, England, and also helped some people to realize they are owners of their freedom so they do not be foolish and do whatever they want. (logically without breaking law.) He is important to me because I grew up with his music and he taught a lot of people not let anyone dictate their lives and to be a free person. Also he inspires lots of band including U2.
