I think that unsung heroes are what make this world a good place. They do all the hard work, make tough decisions, and help others without getting any recognition from it. This makes the world a better place because then the world isn't just about you. So then you think about how the other person feels and we do things for not just us but others. And that's how communities and civilizations continue to thrive.
Empathy is sort of like when you understand another person's feelings, you know what it's like to be in someone else's shoes and you understand how they feel. This affects an individual's perspective of others because when you have empathy you're not just showing sympathy and saying sorry but understanding how they are feeling. So you know what it feels like to be them. That's how it affects someone's perspective.
Now I'll tell you about a hero. Not just any hero, an unsung hero. This is Ben Abo. Here's what happened. On day Ben was in New Jersey at a commuter train stop in Greenwich Village during his summer vacation to New York. A man fell onto the tracks head first and lay there, bleeding heavily and having a seizure. Ben then looked to see if the train was coming and jumped in. Sweating now, he heaved the man over his head and back onto the platform. Then he pulled himself up. Right after he got up he felt a gush of wind and saw headlights reflecting off the wall. Then he went to work stopping the bleeding. The emergency team said that if he hadn't of stopped the bleeding he would have died. But thanks to Ben Abo he is still alive today.
Ben Abo was very quick to the scene and knew how to stop the bleeding because of his background. He graduated from the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, Touro University of Osteopathic Medicine,University of Pittsburgh, and CH East. He also knows Spanish and Spanglish. Here are some of he places the has worked. He has worked at City College EMS Programs, Medical Director, City College EMS Programs, December 2015 - Present (3 months), Miami Dade College, Adjunct Professor - EMS Program, Miami Dade College, September 2014 - Present (1 year 6 months) | Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area, Emergency Medical Services Program, Mount Sinai Medical Center Miami Beach, Emergency Medicine Resident Physician, Mount Sinai Medical Center Miami Beach, 2011 - Present (5 years) | Miami/Fort Lauderdale Area, Emergency Medicine Residency 2012 - 2016 and a lot more.
So because of what Ben Abo did and no one recognized him for what he did I do feel he is an unsung hero. I feel this way because he saved a life of a man while risking his. And I do feel that he made the world a better place by doing so. This is because he didn't act for himself but for another. And if a lot more people do the same we can do great things.
