The reason my dad is a hero is because when I was just three years old my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer. Immediately, we were told that he would live only 12-18 months. Fortunately the doctors were wrong. My dad fought his disease by choosing surgery and radiation, and was successful in beating it.

More than five years later the cancer returned but in a different area of his brain. The doctors again said that he would not survive more than a few months, but yet again he did. We visited my dad everyday while he was in the hospital for two and a half years. My dad had the courage to choose a dangerous experimental Chemo therapy to fight his horrible disease. The experiment worked. The cancer was gone.

After almost eight long years, Bryon Carter Andrew died of complications of the experimental Chemo therapy.

Because of his willingness to be a part of cancer research, people with similar cancers today can expect to live longer.

My dad worked as a letter carrier for Canada Post. He got to know the people on his route, and often did odd jobs for them. He especially liked gardening for the seniors that he delivered mail to.

Extra Info

My dad loved gardening, especially when he worked with roses.

My dad also loved to draw comical monsters and cartoons.

At home my dad would play the drums or practice the congas because he was the drummer in our church band.
