Benjamin Banneker

If you want to know about a person who was the first African American Astronomer, you're looking at the right report. Benjamin is the name, Banneker is the game! Benjamin Banneker was born on November 9, 1731 and died on October 25, 1806.

Childhood

Benjamin Banneker's childhood was different from most children at his time, because he wasn't a slave. Before he was born, his grandmother moved from England to Baltimore in Maryland. Benjamin's grandmother was white so he wasn't a slave. He soon took interest in math and science. In 1775 Benjamin made a clock made entirely out of wood that worked for 50 years.

Adultlife

Benjamin's adult life became very interesting because he was black and wanted to be an astronomer. He became the first African Astronomer! The first almanac he wrote was an almanac for justice to African Americans and was sent to Thomas Jefferson!

Famous/Hero

Benjamin Banneker did a lot of stuff to make history. He even helped design the new White House! A hero is someone who helps us get through life better. A famous person is someone who is well known for their intelligence. I think Benjamin Banneker was very smart and had a very interesting life.
