Dr. Benjamin Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan. When he was eight years, his parents divorced. That left all responsibilities on Ben’s mom Sonya. She dropped out of school when she was in third grade. As a result, her reading skill was very poor. When Ben first started school his grades were poor. During his fifth grade Ben Carson was the least smart from his class. His friends then started calling him “Dummy”. When Mrs. Sonya recognized Ben’s failing action, she strongly started to change his life by limiting his television time and instead she made him to read books. She also limited his play time. Further more, she makes him to read two books per week and to write a report on what he read. This makes Carson to develop his mind and within a few weeks he started showing a great progress over his classmates. Then soon he got the best grades from his class. After he successfully finished his high school career, Ben went to Yale University to study psychology. Then after he received his degree he transferred to university of Michigan where he studied neurosurgery. After he got his doctorate degree, he then went to John Hopkins Hospital. He also became director of pediatric neurosurgery when he was 30 years old.

A hero is a person that follows a heroic journey and possesses qualities admired by society. To be admired by society, the person should have a good quality. Ben is a life saver. For instance, Ben is the first neurosurgeon that saved the conjoined kids for the first time. This opened a great opportunity for people who have the same problem. For this case Ben is a hero because he solved a difficult problem for the world. Ben didn’t stop there. He has a foundation by the name of “Carson’s Scholars Fund” that helps top students by giving scholarships for colleges. This illustrates that Ben is helping the society’s life by opening up opportunities. Consequently, Ben Carson is a hero because he supports his society by saving peoples’ lives and by giving scholarships for students.
