Vincent P. Coleman was the person that saved thousands of people's lives in the Halifax explosion. Instead of fleeing he stayed and gave his life to save the ones of others. He sent out a simple message; "stop trains, munition ship on fire, making for Pier 6. Goodbye." The message managed to get to the trains but this hero was killed. Sadly he didn’t save the people on the ship. None of them survived. The explosion ranged for miles around, destroying everything in its path. After the explosion, the few people that came to Halifax saw what had happened. Lots of people that were on vacation to come there would have been dead if it hadn’t been for Vincent Coleman. Even today he is remembered for his heroic act. His family that he left behind was a wife and four kids who all survived.

The Halifax explosion had been a huge explosion that had ranged for miles around. The way it all started was when a ship full of explosives had crashed with another ship when they tried to go the same way to avoid each other. The sparks that flew caught the ship on fire and then they sent out the message that the ship was on fire. It was vacation time so a bunch of trains were coming to Halifax and they would cross near the ship and at that rate it would kill a lot of people. Vincent stopped the trains but the ship still exploded. It was like having a huge ball of fire shooting at you but with nowhere to escape! The explosion did a huge amount of damage but soon, people went to fixing it up.

At 7:30 on December 6, 1917 a ship, filled with explosives set out to sail. Then disaster struck at 8:45. The ship was on fire and people were fleeing for their lives. The chief of the company saw Vincent staying and asked him what the heck he was doing?! Vincent just said that hew was going to save the people on the train. His boss told him he was crazy and that he had a family to care for, but at that time Vincent didn`t care about his family, all he cared about was the people on the trains coming to Halifax. His boss gave up and ran for it. At exactly 9:06 the biggest explosion ever at its time tore through Halifax.

In the deadly explosion over 2000 people where killed, 100 partially blinded, 200 blinded from shattering glass and more. When the boy that came from the ship to say it was going to exploded, only one person believed him. Our hero. Sadly, our hero was killed instantly, and even if he had run he would have been killed. He lived from 1876-1917. Today they still have the shirt he wore and even the machine that he used to save the lives of many people. They found a ton of stuff that got caught up in the explosion. Vincent is a true hero.
