Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft Corporation and currently the world's richest man, is known worldwide as the leader in software. Gates is one of the approximate 78,000 workers, that are part of Microsoft. We will explore how he got to this position in his career, and how this has affected his life.

Bill Gates was born on October 28th, 1955, and grew up with his two sisters, and his father, William H. Gates II, in Seattle. Gates attended school at a public elementary. He was only 13 years of age when he picked up an interest in programing computers and device software.
"In 1973, Gates entered Harvard university as a freshman, where he lived just down the hall from the present Chief Executive Steve Ballmer. While at Harvard Gates started to developed a version of the programing language BASIC, for the first microcomputer."

In his junior year, he dropped out to start the development of Microsoft with a childhood friend of his, Paul Allen. He felt that the computer would become a very useful tool in everyday life, so he had started to develop software. As the years went on, Gates and his partner became more and more of a success. Eventually with the new software they invented, along with the invention of laptops, Gates came to be one of the world's richest men.

Bill, and his wife, Melinda Gates, have created their own charity named "The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation". This charity was made to help children and adults get the proper schooling they need, so that they may live a successful life. Gates stated, "Our goal in this country must be to prepare all students for collage, work, and citizenship. And our challenge is to give students and schools the support they need to reach their goal". The foundation has six main locations at which they focus on, with different goals for each. Foundation locations include North America, South America, Australia, Europe, and the main focus is in Africa. They not only help with making sure people are getting the education they need, but also with poverty, health care, and medical issues. Bill Gates and his wife alone donated $28.8 million to start off their foundation.

Bill Gates was chosen as my Hero because, he as well as his wife, have done a tremendous deed in the world by creating a charity, donating lots of money to it. This foundation has helped a lot of people, and I found that this was a great thing he did to help the rest of the world. As well, he also made perhaps one of the greatest advancements in the world of technology, which has helped everyone, in many ways around the world. Overall, Bill Gates is a wonderful person, and has helped the world tremendously, so should be considered a hero.
