A hero should be someone you look up to, someone you would want to be like someday. A hero is someone that takes a toll on your life and someone that you wish could never die, someone that you wish could have a lifelong dream to continue to help and inspire others like they have inspired you. My hero is my mom and in my hero story I will give you all the reasons why my mom was/is my hero and why/how she has inspired me and others and also why I chose her and why that's my definition of a hero.
"In the name of the best within you, do not sacrifice this world to those who are its worst. In the name of the values that keep you alive, do not let your vision of man be distorted by the ugly, the cowardly, the mindless in those who have never achieved his title. Do not lose your knowledge that man's proper estate is an upright posture, an intransigent mind and a step that travels unlimited roads. Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours.”My mom always told me this quote when I was younger so that I would know the difference between ordinary man and ordinary hero.

My mother is my hero. Born October 4, 1947. I'm adopted, but that doesn't matter because my biological mother doesn't care about me anyways. The only thing that matters is that my adopted mother was and still is there. I will never forget such a wonderful woman because she is a true hero. My definition of a hero is someone who gives their all without expecting anything in return and she is where I got that definition from. I call her my hero because she believed in me when I couldn't even believe in myself, she pushed me when I didn't have the strength to move my feet forward, she held my hand so I didn't have room to fall and she made sure that I was safe in her arms. She didn't let anything harm me from the slightest cut til' the end of her death, she still makes sure that i will never be hurt. I have three brothers and one other sister, nevertheless to say there was no favoritism, she never showed the differences between us as we grew up only to realize family is always there. Your brother/sister should always be your best friend no matter how big the age difference, or how big the personality difference, but the main picture is family matters and family should be first because without them there is no you. So Never put your family aside to fulfill your dreams because you can never forget the ones that made you and helped you get to where you are today.
My Mom was my hero because even though she has proceeded me in death she was a phenomenal woman who never let any obstacle, no matter how hard or large, get in her way. She was the type of woman who never stopped giving even when she had nothing to give. She was homeless and still giving her children the world that she couldn't afford. My mother was the type of woman, even when sick she still did what she really didn't have the strength to do. It's been almost two years since she left and I will never forget the day that I stood and watched my mom die in front of me. Although it's hard it will be fine because she is my angel and she is divine. She is there for me in spirit, maybe not in flesh, but I know she is still watching over me and making sure I'm safe. Hard times never stopped her. She was a child of God. My mother always taught me that you can be a drug dealer or a preacher, but if you ask God for forgiveness you will be forgiven. I will miss her dearly, but she will always inspire me.
“A hero has faced it all: he need not be undefeated, but he must be undaunted.”

As i grew stronger and wiser my mother continued to be my rock and my strength. The quotes above were also things she told me as a child. She would tuck my brother, sister, and i into bed every night, and look into our eyes and say "I love you deeply, never forget that! Sleep tight don't let the bed bugs bite" and smile, before she left us at night she would make sure all mean and bad thoughts were gone and when any of us had a bad dream she would come to us and tell us thank God it was a dream because she would never let anything harm us even if it took all her power. I can remember my mom always telling us that there was nothing out there that we couldn't accomplish and that no problem was too big because God will never give us anything that we couldn't bear. It took a long time to realize such a wonderful woman had left us without a goodbye. It took time only to realize that even though she didn't deserve to go everybody has a time and that was hers. She will truly be missed by many but never forgotten by any!

My Story was about my mom because she is my hero, the only one that i would do anything to be like someday. I call her my hero because she is so inspirational and such a phenomenal woman that no one can ever replace. She will truly be missed and always be loved. Below is a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. The quote that she always told us will one day be true. When i was a child, racism was still a big deal. The world was still full of people that felt that they were better than others that their life was more important and had more moral meaning than the next. The world was full of people who felt like African Americans didn't belong, and if you were a mixed African American like myself (African American & Chinese) then the other race was wrong for dealing with an African American. My mother always told me that no one is better than me and that I'm not better than anyone. Also if anyone felt that my life didn't matter and theirs was the best thing in the world to tell them that My life has more moral meaning than your entire family not only because you feel that you are better than me, but because someone down the line in your family let you know that it was okay to crush other's dreams to fulfill your own, when really all along they were wrong because it's never okay to forget the ones who made you.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." Martin Luther King, Jr
