Bethany Hamilton

My hero is Bethany Hamilton. Bethany has had perseverance; she helps the community and is a role model to me. She was born on February 8, 1990 in Hawaii. Bethany is very good at surfing. In fact she started surfing at a very young age, and her first competition was when she was eight years old. Hamilton being 13 years old and continuing to surf after a shark attack, just made me want to be like her. I am really inspired by Hamilton.

Bethany Hamilton cherishes to help the community and the people. She likes to go to orphanages and helps the kids out with whatever she possibly can do. In fact Bethany went to Thailand when a tsunami hit there to help the people suffering from having no food to eat at all. She couldn't bear to think of the people without food, so she donated eating items. She does charity work and donates money to the charity. The fact that Hamilton puts others before her by helping the community is something I like about her.

Bethany Hamilton has perseverance. In 2003 Bethany was surfing with her friend when a shark ate her arm. Even though Bethany lost her arm, she did not give up on her dream of surfing. About after a month of her surgery she was in the water. In the beginning she tried to stand up on the board, she would fall off and when she tried surfing with one arm it would be tough for her to balance. If she fell off the board she would get up and try it again and never try to give up. But Bethany kept practicing every day and got better at getting on the board and surfing with only one arm. Hamilton has been through a lot, but she did not give up even though there have been obstacles in her way.

Personally Bethany Hamilton is a role model to me. She showed me that there is another door that will lead you to the same place, but it could be something that you would not expect. She also showed me not to run away from the obstacles in your way, but to face them. When the shark attack happened, Bethany knew to look at the good side and move on with a positive attitude because she thought that God had done it for her good. Bethany has been through a lot, but never given up and I think I like that the best about her.

Bethany Hamilton is a true inspirational hero to me. Bethany is not only a role model to me, but is a role model to many other people out there. She has done so much for others even after all she has been through. She never gave up surfing; she worked very hard to come to high levels of competitions and she has accomplished all her goals to live her dream. There is so much to learn from Bethany Hamilton.
