Bob Marley

by Tobin from Jefferson

What is the definition of a hero? Or is there even really a definite meaning to the word "hero"? What one hero means to someone can have a total opposite effect to another. Take my hero for an instance, some consider him a poor figure to society because of his reputation for doing drugs but what they don't give him credit for is his talent of music. While recording every song in his history he tells a story in each album. He never fails to sing the truth and always thinks about real things in his songs. He's a good hero. I think he was always a couple years ahead of everyone else. His art never fails to help me when I am experiencing hard times, it sends me to a world that i never want to leave because it's always about peace and overcoming the issues of life. If you haven't guessed yet, my hero is Bob Marley.

Bob Marley was born to a young, black woman and a young, white man who also made his living as a musician. As a teenager he joined into a group of only 3 people in 1963. The other two were Bob's friends Nevilly, who was called Bunny for short, and Peter McIntosh, who in later years was known as Peter Tosh. The close friends grew up together in a ghetto neighborhood near Kingston. They grew up listening to nothing but the blues and whatever else the American radios were playing.

Not only do i think so but many others think Bob Marley is the "first third world superstar". Considering that I'm in love with all music of his century he is by far the greatest singer of his time. If he were still singing to this day he would without a doubt be one of the greatest singers of our time. Rather than bashing on the other races that walk the earth, Marley sang about helping people and sang about bringing peace to our world. He always shared his opinions through the words in his songs. For those who actually have taken time to hear the words that Marley expressed in his music, should have a good understanding of how great a man he was.

Bob Marley's music style has given a positive outlook on life for those who are optimistic towards living life. Marley's description of his powerful music was that he provided positive vibrations to those who were low on life. Though, there were the occasional people who protested his outlook on life, he surrounded himself with living in a world filled with peace and happiness and he never showed any anger. If Bob Marley were still alive to this day, i think he would be disappointed to see how downhill our world has gone, since all we hear about when we turn our tv's on is about who got shot or what the casualty count is at war. On other terms i think he could still be creating amazing pieces of music and influencing the idea of a peaceful life to those who don't have much to look forward to.

"Hero" is not a very popular word these days. Heroes can be defined in several different ways; they can be the ones who help you time of need, they can be the ones who motivate you to become a better person. Bob Marley is one of my biggest heroes, he never stopped living his lifestyle because he was being judged for habits or singing about things that people believed couldn't happen. Many people may never admit it but Bob Marley without a doubt affected several lives. When People complained but had no right to state their opinions, Marley sang about it in his music. He changed many people's mindsets on different ideas that were stated to the world. Though Marley is no longer here with us in person, his music and spirit will never die. My definition of a hero is someone who fights for a cause and never gives up and shows his greatest strengths even at his weakest moments. My hero, Bob Marley is the creator of peace in my mind, and will forever be my hero no matter what judgments are put upon him.
