Who wants to eat some cake!?" is what Buddy would say when he delivers any one of his specialty cakes. Bartolo "Buddy" Valastro or "The Cake Boss", Maker of the world wide known cannoli and amazing, mind-blowing, and especially mouth watering cakes and pastries, is absolutely my hero. Read on to find out why and more about him...

Buddy was born on March 3rd 1977. He is now 35 years old and the proud owner, baker, and decorator of Carlos Bakery. He was born and raised in Little Fairy NJ, but moved to Hoboken NJ later on in his life to help his father move and open a newer "Carlos Bakery" at the age of 10. He currently lives there with his wife, Lisa Valastro and his four children: Sophia, Bartolo "Buddy" lll, Marco, and Carlo Salvatore. He has four sisters and he is the youngest and only boy out of the five of them. His sisters are Mary Sciarrone, Lisa Gonzalez, Grace Faugno, and Madeline Castano. He is the youngest and only son of Bartolo "Buddy" I Valastro and Mary Valastro.

As strange as it may seem, Buddy did not always have the passion for cakes as he does today. When he was eleven, he started to work in the bakery, but just washing pots and pans. When he was about 15 he learned he had inherited the family gene, baking. He learned how to do old school piping, and many more of his wonderful skills from his father. He helped his father create many delicious Italian treats and pastries. At the age of 17, Buddy's father passed away from cancer, Buddy then made a promise to his dad that he would make Carlos Bakery a household name. And eventually he did, but it took hard work, determination, and dedication. After his father died, he met a girl that also worked in the bakery named Lisa. A couple years later, Lisa and he got married in 1991. Later on they had their first child, Sophia. (9), then Bartolo "Buddy" lll (8), Marco (5), and Carlo Salvatore (1). Before his latest son was born, his close family friend, Salvatore "Sal", had recently passed away. So in honor and gratitude he put Sal's name as his son's middle name.

Buddy definitely had his accomplishments. His hit reality TV show, Cake Boss, aired on the network TLC, on April 9th 2009. He wrote a book and had it published called "Stories and Recipes from Mia Famiglia" on November 2nd 2010. He aired another hit reality show called "Next Great Baker" on December 6. Then he had another reality show called "Kitchen Boss" on January 25 2011. He opened up his new factory (Carlos Bakery Factory) in Lackawanna NJ on July 25 2011.  Buddy has done many things to make him a hero to me. Though, he did accomplish many things, he had to overcome obstacles as well. At the age of 17 his father had passed away from cancer. When he was thirty four, his very close family friend had past away. Still at age 34, Buddy had a hernia and had to go through a tough surgery to get it removed. His wife almost had a birth scare, their 4th child was breech. But luckily, the baby moved before his birth.  So Buddy may have many many wonderful accomplishments, he had to overcome some hardships first.  It's one of the reasons he is my hero, because he stays strong.

Buddy has done many things to make him a hero to me. He shows dedication by never giving up no matter the cause. For example, rain or shine Buddy will deliver all of his specialty cakes. Or when the holidays are here, Buddy will stay at the shop until every one of his customers is satisfied. He is very humble and grateful for what he has. "I thank God for everything he has given me. I also thank my father to whom I owe everything to. I know he's looking down smiling at me." Buddy said. He is very responsible. When he makes mistakes, he takes full responsibility for it. For example, when he made a chandelier cake for a very important client, he dropped it, but he took responsibility for it instead of blaming others or complaining. When he begins a cake and something harsh or complicated gets thrown at him, he is determined to finish it and satisfy his client and get the job done well. For example, when he was told to make a robot cake, seems simple, but then the client told him they wanted the robot to move and walk. It was a real complication. But Buddy had determination and stuck with it. He managed to make the cake move using only a remote control.

To Buddy, family always comes first. Even if it's a really busy day at the shop, he will still find time for his family. It was his latest son, Carlo Salvatore's first birthday. It was also recently Lisa and his 20th wedding anniversary. They celebrated by renewing their vows and going on a cruise ship with all of their family.

What Buddy always taught me was that no matter the hardships and distress you may have had in your life, it always gets better if you just hang in there. And work harder, you will succeed. Just those few sentences help me when I have no hope left. It reminds me that things will always get better in life. In conclusion the concept of a hero is Buddy Valastro. He has the qualities of what I truly feel a hero is suppose to be. Not just strength and bravery, but dedication, humbleness, and responsibility. And those qualities are exactly what Buddy represents.
