BP as Chief Scout |
My Hero is the founder of Boy Scouts, Sir Robert Baden-Powell. Sir Robert Baden-Powell created Boy Scouts, which today is available to youth worldwide. His methods have been around for over one hundred years, since August 1, 1907. He served in the British army from 1876 until 1910. He fought in India and Africa during which time he wrote several military training guides and scouting books which were read by boys.
In August of 1907 Sir Robert Baden-Powell held a camp on Brownsea Island for twenty-two boys of mixed backgrounds where he used many of his ideas, which were partially influenced by Indians. In 1908 Scouting for Boys was published and scouting organizations for boys and girls have been created worldwide since then. Even though there have been adjustments to the requirements, laws, and other particular parts of scouting, Sir Robert Baden-Powell laid the foundation which has benefited millions of people worldwide. Sir Robert Baden-Powell was born on February 22, 1857 in Paddington, London, England and died on January 8, 1941. He is currently buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Nyeri, Kenya.
Sir Robert Baden-Powell is important to me because he laid the foundation for Boy Scouts. I have been in Boy Scouts for a little over two years now and am currently a Star scout. Boy Scouts has provided me with so many opportunities to help the community, help fellow scouts, and have a very fun time. I have learned many skills, made friends, and become a better person because of Boy Scouts and Sir Robert Baden-Powell. The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. This is what I am striving to do.
