Bear began as a shelter dog because no one wanted him. Debbie wanted Bear and they became very close. When Debbie had a seizure following a horseback riding accident, Bear went to get help. Bear was never trained. He won the 30th National Hero Dog award by the Society of Prevention for Cruelty to Animals. Bear got free dog food for a year!

Bear warns Debbie, his owner, if she is going to have a seizure so she can sit down. He leans on her leg. This protects her from falling. If she needs it, Bear get her medicine. He's never been trained.
