Beka Hardt

By Emily G.

One of my heroes is Beka Hardt. She was my director at C.Y.T. a couple years ago. She was C.Y.T. Vancouver’s first director, and continued directing us for three years.

She was brave, kind, and funny. She wasn’t a dictator and was open for ideas. She loved to have fun, though she can be serious. Beka gets along with everyone, and doesn’t want anyone left out. She hates dogs, though, when we did Annie we had two dogs, so she braved that.

She trusted God in everything, even moving back to Illinois, with absolutely no plans. She had moved from San Diego only a few weeks before C.Y.T. Vancouver started to direct. Directing large shows, with high expectations and a lot going on in a small space, is difficult. We were in an old building, which leaked when it rained, and grew mold and mushrooms, and many other problems. Somehow, the show always came together and was a wonderful memory. The shows were first rate, each and every one. Even after the three school year shows were done, Beka ran the summer camps, and even flew back for some the past two years, though this last year she didn’t.

Some interesting things about Beka are that she has eaten about ten goldfish, after a money raising goal was reached. She knows the Barlow girls, and tours with them, so when they have a concert, it is a C.Y.T. event, and we get to see our beloved director. Beka’s laugh can be easily picked out of a crowd, and is quite unanimous in Vancouver. Beka is a lady with a vision and a hope for the future.

Beka came back to visit us this weekend. She came to two Dress Rehearsals and some of the shows. It was great to see her interacting with everybody on cast and crew. True to herself, I think everyone in this show now knows and loves Beka Hardt. Thanks Beka for being my director and friend!
