Yogi Berra is my idol because I have three things in common with him. He likes the New York Yankees, he is a catcher, and my grandma calls me Yogi Bear…it kind of sounds like Yogi Berra.

Yogi Berra was born in 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri. As he was growing up, he loved the game of baseball. He loved to play many other sports as well.

He was the manager for the New York Yankees and won the AL Pennant (AL stands for American League) in 1964. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972. Later he became the New York Mets manager and retuned to the Yankees in 1975.

He never bragged about being on top. He just was happy to do his best. Yogi is a hero for everything he has done. He always said he could, and never said "I can’t." That’s why Yogi Berra is my hero.
