Blackie the Horse

Blackie was a swaybacked horse that stood still. He was born in Kansas in February 1926. He was a rodeo horse first and then a cavalry horse. When he retired he was moved to a pasture in Tiburon, Ca. Blackie saved the grassy land from becoming a big shopping mall. This land is now a beautiful field. Children and grown ups can play and ride bikes there. When Blackie stood still just to take the view, the kids saw him do it, and they did it, too, and they learned in the process what joy can be found in just standing there quietly looking around. I get to see Blackie's pasture everyday , and am so glad it's there.
