Rocky Blier

Do you think that you could still play a professional sport when your legs were injured in a war? Rocky Blier had the determination to be considered a hero. Well, Rocky Blier had that happen to him when he was in the Vietnam War. Both of his legs were badly injured. Rocky Blier still was one of most productive running backs in the NFL. He constantly had to make up for his injury and never gave excuses when he did something wrong.

My hero is Rocky Blier. He was born on December 15, 1947. He was a fullback for the Pittsburg Steelers. He went to college at Notre Dame. The reason why he is a hero is because he was drafted into the army in the Vietnam War. During war he had both of he legs injured by a grenade that blew up under his right foot. He also got shot in the left leg. Instead of quitting, he was determined to make it back to the NFL. Rocky was determined to keep on doing his rehab so that he could play.

Rocky Blier wasn’t known for his speed or his quick moves. He was known for his heart and his attitude. His coaches say that Rocky is the most determined player to ever play the game. Rocky lead the Steelers to three Super Bowl rings. He is one of the many NFL legends. Rocky Blier retired in 1980.

Rocky Blier is an excellent example of a hero within. The writer of the Hero’s Trail wrote that to be a hero you must have to overcome a disease. In this case, Rocky Blier had to overcome two injured legs. He didn’t have the talent to become a legend but he had the heart and the will to overcome his injury and he is still an NFL legend. The most important thing to being a hero is to have the attitude that you can go on despite your problems. Rocky Blier is not only an excellent example of a hero, but he is a great role model.

Rocky Blier is one of those people that you could recognize him, but still not know what he has been through. In my opinion, Rocky Blier should be a national hero as well as an NFL hero. Rocky Blier is truly an amazing person.
