Andrew Bernstein once stated,” A hero holds purposes appropriate to man and is, therefore, a thinker.” A hero has many other qualities, such as a dreamer, a visionary, an adventurer, and being devoted to a cause. A hero can be a great role model by accomplishing a goal that is very courageous. Heroes make a difference in people’s lives; the inspiration can be positive or negative. Heroes don’t have to be celebrities, but can be an animal, child, or adult! To the people of Colombia, Fernando Botero is a hero because of his unique artwork.

Fernando was born in Medelin, Colombia on April 19, 1932. He is best known for his unique art. Fernando attended the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. He began work as an illustrator. Fernando’s art represents his culture and feelings. He went on a long trip to Mexico, and the murals influenced his future as an artist. After a long time, he developed the painting style he is known for in 1964. He inflated, rounded, and painted with invisible brush strokes into an exaggerated size human. With his unique art, he won the First Intercol at the Museum of Modern Art.

“When you start a painting, it is somewhat outside of you. At the conclusion, you seem to move inside the painting,” explains Fernando about his unique art. Fernando mostly paints people and his art expresses his emotions. When wars continued in Colombia, his art changed tone, shows kidnapping, violence, and death. In his art, he explained what was going on in Colombia and how he felt about it. Fernando is very talented. His art has no words to describe it, but amazing.

Fernando possesses many different qualities. One is that he’s dedicated because he paints many different paintings and paints almost all the time. Another quality Fernando has is patience, because he spends a long time on the same painting until he feels it’s right! He is devoted because his art is very important to him. Fernando loves what he does.
