Ruby Bridges

by Elizabeth from Dalton

Ruby Bridges had three sisters, and one brother. She was born in the south, in New Orleans,LA. She loved her family very much. Ruby was the first black girl to attend William Frantz Elementary, which is an all white school.

She is my hero because I would have never had the courage to do what she did. Can you imagime how it would be to go to a school where no one would talk, play,or have anything to do with you? Even parents didn't agree with her going to their kid's school, so they took their kid out of school until the government did something. I think that's awful!

She is such a great role model to kids our age because she teaches us not to judge people by what they look like and to get to know the person before deciding if you want to start a friendship or not. Also, she has inspired a book called The Ruby Briges Story, written by Robert Coles. Today Ruby is 44 years old and has devoted herself to the education of the young.
