Madam C.J. Walker

by Arely from Romeoville, Illinois

Madam C.J. Walker.
Madam C.J. Walker.

Madam CJ walker is a hero to me and many other people in this world. In this essay I’d like to express my appreciation of Madam CJ Walker. Also, I will walk you through some important things in her life, and how it has affected me. I will show you all her courage, responsibility, sacrifice, integrity, passion, and much, much more.

The moment I first heard of Madam CJ Walker I thought, “Okay she is cool, but nothing special.” That was until I heard about her again at the library. The more I knew, the more I wanted to know about her. I said, ”Wow! Not everyone can say they have done something like that!" Since then, Madam CJ Walker has been my hero.

Madam CJ Walker had to give up or sacrifice many things in her life. For example, at the age of fourteen she got married, had a little girl, and worked at all times. Mme. always put her family first. That was another reason she couldn’t pay attention to all the racism.

One trait that Walker was never lacking was passion. The many hair products were not only the result of a bad scalp problem of hers. There were more reasons she did what she did. She had all those women that were suffering with the same condition. It was a big part of her life.

Madam CJ Walker has had a lot of responsibility, especially with her daughter. Even though she had her daughter at a young age, she had a lot of will power to take care of her daughter. She worked and took care of her girl.

She gave back, plenty. She opened schools for African American women by training them to be Walker agents. Walker agents sell Mme. CJ Walker products door to door. It gave many women chances to work that they normally would not have had before.

Mme. Walker was determined to find a solution for her scale problem, since there were mainly products for white women. She worked long nights, mixing ingredients in a tub for a dream. She could have chosen the easy way and given up.

Walker also has honor. She doesn’t take anything for granted. She knows she worked hard for everything she had earned. Many organizations wanted to give her awards and some she accepted, others she rejected because she felt she didn’t deserve them as she always did what she needed to do.

Madam Walker overcame many tragedies. She knew she deserved more. Walker survived 18 years working as a laundress. It got hard for her to make an honest living. She refused to give up for herself and her daughter.

I would laugh if someone asked me if I think Mme. Walker is a leader. She is the first women millionaire. It is very special because she is African American. Many people said it couldn’t be done, but she proved many people wrong.

I cannot even imagine how much work it would be to make a shampoo from scratch that actually works. It would have been easy to copy other shampoo. Those are only some of the reasons that makes Madam CJ Walker is a great women.
