Christopher Paolini

by Patrick from Kansas

Christopher Paolini is no ordinary adult. Having written 2 books, both best sellers, he is adored by fans everywhere. What once was his hobby, has turned into an incredible career. This is my take on the author behind Eragon, and the Inheritance trilogy.

Christopher Paolini was born on November 17, 1983 in Paradise Valley, Montana. He was homeschooled his entire life, and graduated high school at the age of fifteen years old. After graduating, he began to write his novel, Eragon, which took a year to write. At the age of 17, the book had been edited. At the age of 18, the book was released by Paolini International LLC, which is his parents' publishing company. After the release, he toured 130 western schools, talking about reading and writing. All the while, he wore a red swordsman’s shirt, black pantaloons, and laced up boots. Now, when he looks back, he winces when he recalls wearing that.

After being introduced to the book by his grandson, author Carl Hiaasen told his publisher, Knopf, about the book. Knopf made the Paolini’s an offer, and they found themselves a literary agent. Eragon and the Inheritance trilogy were sold. A second edition of the book was written, an estimated 20,000 words were removed, and it was released in August of 2003. Eragon is currently spending its 92nd week in the top 15 on the best-selling list. By the 24th week, it had outsold Harry Potter, and developed a huge fan base.

Christopher Paolini is my hero because his writing inspires me, and makes me dream of riding dragons, fighting urgals (ogres, basically) in massive wars, and confronting evil rulers. His story is quite incredible also. An average student like me, he wrote this gargantuan series, and has won thousands, if not, millions of fans. Christopher has influenced me greatly, in my writing, and my life.
