The great and amazing Criss Angel's real name is Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos. Spectacular Criss Angel mindfreak was born on December 19, 1967. Criss is now 41 years old, but he is still looking young and fabulous. He has accomplished a lot in Las Vegas, which is home base for his show, "Mindfreak". He also performs with "Cirque Du Soleil," a new live show which opened at the Luxor Hotel and Casino. It is said that Criss has redefined the term "artist" for the 21st century. He's become big enough to been seen on many different broadcasts, and has guest-starred on many talk shows. Criss has even been featured on the "Oprah" show. "He also attended the VH1 Rock-Honors Awards performing and introducing legendary Ozzy Osbourne." Over a short period of time Criss has accomplished many things.
He grew up loving music, playing the drums and always having an interest in magic. Beginning when he was six years old, Criss Angel immersed himself in a variety of art forms, as a performance artist and musician. As a teenager, he performed as a magician at birthday parties, night clubs and private events. He got his pyrotechnics license at age 18. "Criss played in a band called "AngelDust" with friend Klay Scott who produced and helped arrange his CD's and music for Criss' Mindfreak show." Most recently, Criss was featured as Luke Blade, in an episode of "SI: New York" He's had a cover story done on him in the popular auto magazine, "DUB". He is an accomplished musician having produced and performed on five self-titled cd's, and has appeared in arenas coast-to-coast across America.
Two of his biggest magic influences are Harry Houdini and Richiardi. His father was also a big influence on him, especially after a long battle cancer, until his death in 1998. Harper Collins released Criss' first book, "Criss Angel Mindfreak: Secret Revelations" in April 2007. Criss has also received numerous awards throughout his career. He was named 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 Magician of the Year. Criss was also unanimously selected as the recipient of the 22nd Louie Award for outstanding achievement in the art of magic.
