Cassandra Clare is an author that was born to American parents in Teheran, Iran. Her childhood was mostly composed of books and traveling around the world with her parents. She even spent one month in her father’s backpack as a toddler traveling through the Himalayas. She’s lived in various parts of the world including some specific ones like France, England, and Switzerland all before the age of ten! And because she was moving around so much, she found her sanctuary in books and began carrying them everywhere she went. Now that she’s older, she lives in the outskirts of Massachusetts with her husband and two cats. She writes urban fantasies either called The Mortal Instrument Series or The Infernal Devices, in which a variety of characters are connected between the later eighteen hundreds and present day time. “Action” is one word to describe what she brings to my imagination when I read her writing. I love the way she puts a variety of different emotions into her characters instead of keeping the same throughout. She inspired me after reading her biography not to forget about reading anywhere I went.

Cassandra isn’t like the normal authors I read about that sit at home with their laptops just typing away. Instead, she prefers to go to local coffee shops and/or restaurants with her friends so that she can meet her deadlines better. Also, she says that it’s impossible to work at home. She doesn’t do anything else besides write or be around her friends. It’s unclear how she really works outside of her writers-life because of her fake name, but I’d assume that with her expert persuasion skills, she’s good at anything she applies herself for.

Cassandra inspires me even more by showing how a young writer would be able to get their work overlooked by editors. I saw her with a group of friends at the Mission Viejo Civic Center a couple months ago and got the chance to briefly talk to her. She’s a really nice lady with talent and, as far as me and her fans are concerned, is one of the greatest writer that’s ever written fictional stories. To become more like her, I’ve decided to take creative writing classes at a community college in order to prepare myself.

As well as being a well-known writer, Cassandra used to write for several different newspapers in different columns for a great deal of her life. Her articles were sometimes about Britney Spears’s wardrobe or even Paris Hilton. She wishes she doesn’t have to do as such again, and it always makes me smile to know that she’s a great writer in a newspaper article.

Cassandra’s first professional writing was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of a comedy/fantasy. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles, where she wrote stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name). After graduating college, Cassandra lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines. She started working on her current novel masterpiece, City of Bones, in 2004, which was inspired by the urban city of Manhattan — her favorite city in the world.
