Chris Farley

by Michelle from Fresno

My hero, Chris Farley

A hero doesn't have to be a person with superpowers but mostly a hero can be someone who inspires you to do great things and help you get through difficult times in your life and help people along the way.

My hero is Chris Farley cause he was a funny and amazing comedian and actor and I admire how he can get a good laugh and show people a good time with fans that loved him, respected him and looked up to him for a good laugh at jokes he told on TV and movies he did. Chris Farley was an actor who has fun doing stuff that would make people laugh right along with him.

Chris Farley was born on February 16, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin, he had two brothers and one sister. He and his brother and sister attended catholic schools in his hometown and Chris Farley spent most of his summer at a camp near Minocqua, Wisconsin. Farley graduated from Marquette University in 1986 with a concentration in communications and theater. After college he worked with his father at the Scotch Oil Company then he got his start in professional comedy at the Ark Improv theater in Madison and the Improv Olympic theater in Chicago. Then he performed at the Chicago's Second City theater initially as part of second city's touring group. He was eventually promoted to their main stage while working at second City. He befriended his Saturday Night Live colleague Lorne Michaels.

Farley became part the SNL cast members in spring 1990 and collaborated with his fellow cast members Chris Rock, David Spade, Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider and became known as the bad boys of Saturday Night Live after he and Adam Sandler pulled a phone prank that got them both fired from the show in 1995 and during his SNL tenure Chris Farley had roles in comedy films Coneheads, Wayne's World, Airheads uncredited in Billy Madison. He also appeared in Red Hot Chili Pepper's music video, a Soul to Squeeze. which was the song on the Coneheads soundtrack. After he and fellow SNL cast members were released from their contracts, Chris Farley focused on his film career. He starred in his first two major films Tommy Boy and Black Sheep along with SNL co star and close friend David Spade which he and David Spade earned an award for their performances in Tommy Boy and Chris Farley was also nominated for his best comedic performances in Black Sheep and Beverly Hills then his two final films were Almost Heroes and Dirty Work before his death.

Chris Farley was found dead by his younger brother in his apartment in the John Hancock Center on December 18, 1997. An autopsy revealed that he died of an drug overdose on morphine and  cocaine early that morning. A private funeral was by Chris Farley's family and most of the actors that he worked with him attended but David Spade didn't attend but on an 25th anniversary episode of Saturday Night Live David Spade almost cried but held back his tears to call a moment of remembrance of his friend Chris Farley and he was entombed at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
