Chipper Jones

by John from St. George

Chipper Jones is my hero. He was a talented baseball player who spent his whole career playing with the Atlanta Braves, my favorite team. He was the first overall draft pick of the 1996 first year player draft. He held down the hot corner for the Braves for 19 years.

Jones is a Florida native. He was born in the town of DeLand, Florida. Florida is known for its talented baseball players. The warm weather there allows for players to play year round. This gives them many more at-bats than someone up North and lets them get more reps.

Chipper Jones was born on April 24, 1972. Jones has four kids, three sons and one daughter, Matthew, Larry Wayne III (Trey), Tristen, and Shea.

Chipper is my hero because he was a beast at baseball. He strove to be the best player and person he could be. He never got in any trouble off the field, staying out of the media and staying smart with the press. Chip could have left the Braves for more money, or more fame, or better surroundings, but he stayed in Atlanta his whole career. He persevered through good and tough times. This shows me that determination and perseverance are good qualities to have to be successful. Chipper Jones is a role model for me and many other young fans.

The best part about Chipper Jones is that he spent his entire Hall-of-Fame career with the Atlanta Braves. He remained faithful to his coaches, teammates, and fans. He was a leader to younger players who looked up to him. He was a great player, but also a great person.
