He was born in 1832. He was oldest of the Lee's children. He had the reputation of a trouble maker as a small child but when he grew up he became a serious man and a capable young man. He graduated at the top of his class from the United States Military Academy in 1854. After graduation he pursued a career as a military man. He was a good horseman, though not the equal of his younger brother Rooney.
He lived in Forte Monroe, Virginia. He had a good education in private schools and graduated at the top of his class.
He helped by fighting in the Civil War with Davis and his staff. He also spied and delvered messasges to Davis.
