Candy Lightner was the founder of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and We Save Lives. She was born May 30, 1946 in Pasedena, California. Her family us Steve Lightner, Cari Lightner, and Serena Lightner. Her full name is Candace Lynn Lightner. Candy Lightner is now 69 years old.

Lightner was inspired to make MADD when her daughter was hit by a drunk driver. Her daughter was Cari Lightner Cari was 13 years old, in 1980. The person who killed her was Clarence William Busch. Busch had a long record of drunk driving, but he had never been arrested for it. After Candy Lightner found out about this, she wanted to do something about it.

Candy Lightners organization, MADD, helped make a new law. This law made driving intoxicated illegal. Her organization has made this law possible in 25 out of 50 states. Lightner once said, "The death by drunk driving is the only socially acceptable way of homicide." And she was not wrong. Many people used to not think very badly about drunk driving. But Candy Lightner has been helping us not think of this as something that is okay.

Candy Lightner was able to make an organization that helped make drunk driving illegal. In MADD, some people have a similar story, for example, Linda Unfried. One day Unfried said goodnight to her sister like any day. But once her sister left, it was the last time they ever said anything to each other. That night her sister was hit by a drunk driver.

Candy Lightner was a true hero. She made two organizations called MADD, and, We Save Lives. Her organization, MADD, helped make it possible to make laws against drunk driving. Candy Lightner has been through a very sad experience throughout her life, ever since her daughter died in a car crash. Candy Lightner has impacted a lot of people positively.
