As a movie superstar, an action hero, and a slayer of ‘bad guys’, one would not think of Chuck Norris as much of a ‘real life’ hero. In fact, many people in television and movies seem arrogant and ignorant. Not so with Chuck Norris. Norris has a level head on his shoulders, and has done much for America’s children. Even more, he supports our troops overseas and takes part in many fund raising projects to help them. He exhibits patriotism and loyalty to God, country, family and friends. With a tough-guy exterior, Chuck Norris, a devout Christian and family man, lives by a personal code of honor and rules. For these reasons, I think Norris represents the modern day hero.

One of the things I admire most about Chuck Norris involves ‘Chun Kuk Do’. Chun Kuk Do, a type of martial arts, incorporates every combat style into Norris’ style of fighting. It also has a code of rules and honor by which to live. These ten rules encompass characteristics such as loyalty, respect, honesty, work, and forgiveness. Kick Start, another one of Chuck’s programs, I admire tremendously. With the help of George Bush, Norris began teaching martial arts to 150 high-risk children at M. C. Williams Middle School in Houston, Texas, as part of the school curriculum. The program became so successful in helping these kids raise their self-esteem and create discipline and respect that many of them got out of bad groups and gangs. The program now takes place in dozens of schools with thousands of young boys and girls actively participating.

The biggest reason I admire Chuck Norris comes from his belief in God and acceptance of Jesus as his Savior in an atmosphere that looks down on celebrities who feel this way. As an outspoken Christian, he has authored many Christian books and also writes a column for the WorldNetDaily, a Christian website. He writes on many topics such as creationism, intelligent design, and speaking out on religion and politics. Even though he has been divorced and conceived a child out of wedlock many years ago, Norris believes in forgiveness and focuses on the future. He wants God in schools by teaching the Bible in classrooms. Chuck Norris not only portrays an action hero, but he lives out that role by supporting our troops, bringing help to America’s youth, and sharing the Word of God with everyone. He truly is a real life hero.
