My Chemical Romance

by Lily from St. Louis

"All the cameras watch the accidents and stars you hate They only care if you can bleed Does the television make you feel the pills you ate? Or every person that you need to be" This sad truth came from the words of a band. A band that is loved around the world. A band that has felt their fans' pain. My Chemical Romance is my hero. They have been with me from the beginning and they will be with me until the end. People who don't understand what My Chemical Romance is saying, or what their lyrics mean, will have to go through what the Killjoys (the name for their fans) have gone through. No one can explain the meaning of something you love and when it comes to MCR's lyrics my words get mixed up and my tongue gets tied in knots. My Chemical Romance didn't make music for the money, they did it to make their fans know that whatever they are going through, that they are not alone. That they are not the only ones dealing with pain. That someone is there is with them, always.

When I listen to Gerard Way's voice singing my favorite song, Bulletproof Heart, I am taken to a place where everything is better. A place where I can be who I want to be and I'm not judged for anything, where everyone is together and nobody feels pain the way Killjoys have. This is where I got the idea that "Lyrics are my escape" because they really are. I'm never happier than when I'm listening to a song with good beats and amazing lyrics. What's nice about MCR's music is that it's not about love. You listen to Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber or One Direction, all their songs are about love and heartbreak. "And you only live forever in the lights you make When we were young, we used to say That "you only hear the music when your heart begins to break" Now we are the kids from yesterday" -The Kids From Yesterday

Music brings people together. Whether it's at a concert or at a party, nobody can resist singing along to a song they know and dancing the fun, upbeat songs. I have specifically said that My Chemical Romance is my hero, but there are so many artists out there that help me get through those tough days that really, music, overall, is my hero. Music is never thought about in depth. Why is the artist writing about this? What do these lyrics mean? What does this artist/song mean to my life? I'm a music enthusiast and I do think about these things, even though I may not get the answers. "Sing it for the boys, Sing it for the girls Every time that you lose it, sing it for the world Sing it from the heart Sing it till you're nuts Sing it out for the ones that'll hate your guts Sing it for the deaf Sing it for the blind Sing about everyone that you left behind Sing it for the world Sing it for the world" -Sing

It might seem strange that music, something we listen to, not something we can touch or even a person, is my hero. Music has always been there for me and it's something I go to if I ever feel sad or angry. There is a song for pretty much everything you're feeling and that's what I love. Music knows what I'm feeling and it makes me feel better and no person can make me feel as safe or as good as my hero does. "Gravity Don't mean too much to me I'm who I've got to be These pigs are after me, After you Run away, Like it was yesterday And we could run away If we could run away, Run away from here" -Bulletproof Heart (My favorite song)
