Born August 9th in Astoria, Queens, New York, Chamique Holdsclaw is one of the greatest woman basketball players in the history of high school, college, or the WNBA. She attended Christ the King in Queens, New York. She lead her team to four straight New York state championships. She then went on to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. She helped them win three consecutive women's NCAA championships. In 1998 she helped Tennessee get their first ever undefeated season being 39-0.

While at Tennessee she was All-American four times. She's one of only six women to have that honor. In 1999 she was drafted to the WNBA to the Washington Mystics. There, she was named rookie of the year. The next year she moved on to the Olympics and joined to USA team. She helped them get a gold medal. After all that she was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks.

She finished her college career with 3,205 points and 1,295 rebounds making her the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Tennessee in either men's or women's basketball history, the all-time winning scorer and rebounder in SEC women's history and the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in the NCAA Tournament women's history with 470 points and 197 rebounds. ^got this info from this person on my hero. http://www.myhero.com/go/hero.asp?hero=Holdsclaw_07
In 2006 she "was named to the women's college basketball Silver Anniversary team for being picked as one of the 25 greatest players of all time."
She went into retirement in 2007 from the LA Sparks. She came out of retirement in 2009 and went to play for the Atlanta Dream. She is my hero because she is truly an amazing woman and is putting women in history one step at a time.
