Chipper Jones

Early Life- Chipper Jones was born April 24th, 1972 in Deland Florida. His Actual name is Larry Wayne Jones jr. Chipper grew up in Pierson, Florida. He was nicknamed Chipper when he was young because he looked like "a chip off the old block." In 1990 he was elected number one overall in the amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves. He started the season quickly as he sprung into the field on September 11th 1993. Chipper Jones tore his ACL and sat out, making it a sad, shortened season. He regained his strength from his injury and became the National League MVP in 1999.

"Chipper missed many chances to start but injuries set him back when he averaged 100 plus Runs Batted In. Chipper has helped lead the Braves to 13 consecutive division titles and a World Series Championship. The nickname "Chipper" came from family members who felt he was a "chip-off-the-old-block" of his father. Jones met his first wife, Karin Fulfulde, while he was playing with the Braves class A affiliate in Macon Georgia. The couple divorced after it was revealed that Jones had had an 18-month affair with a Hooters waitress which produced a son out of wedlock, Matthew, born in 1997. He married Sharon Logonov in March 2000 in Pierson, Florida. They have three sons: Larry Wayne III Trey, Tristen, and Shea named after Shea Stadium because of Chipper's great success in the stadium. Jones enjoys deer hunting in the offseason." In 2008, Jones released a charity wine called "Chipper Chardonnay", with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting the Miracle League, an organization serving children with disabilities."

In June, 1990, the Atlanta Braves chose him with the 1st pick in the Amateur Draft. Chipper Jones started third base for the Atlanta Braves. Bobby Cox was excited to bring Chipper Jones to the major leagues. Chipper played 17 long years with the Braves and is still continuing his career today in 2010. Chipper was granted several achievements through his career. Chipper Jones is a switch hitter. He bats right and left, he throws right.
