When people think about soccer the first thing that pops into their head is Cristiano Ronaldo. Even though he grew up on a small island he was still noticed by coaches all over the world, also voted number one soccer player in the world. As a young boy several teams asked him to play for them. A lot of coaches started to notice him, but he was too young to play professionally. He knew if he worked hard he had a bright future ahead of him. Cristiano is a hero because he sets examples for children by being a good influence and he has a lot of focus, determination and perseverance. He does not just care about himself, he cares for his family, friends, fans, team and people that need help in the world. People might just see him as a self-centered, conceited, arrogant man, but the opposite of that. He works really hard to gain trust of his fans. He likes to go out of his way to help people in need. He regularly donates to different charities and always looks to lend a hand to people that do not have anything.

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best soccer players in the world is a hero to all and an influence to all aspiring athletes and a person with a lot of dedication, focus and perseverance. Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiros was born February 5, 1985. He was born on the island Maderia, the youngest of four children. His older brother influenced him to start playing soccer and he has played ever since he was a young boy. In his early years he played for a team called Nacional. One of the best of the team, he caught the eye of major teams like Porto and Boavista. When he got older he moved away from his island and started playing with Sporting Club de Portugal. When he first started playing, people did not like him because he had bad sportsmanship. After a while he started to improve and started being more respectful and gained people's admiration. A couple years later he signed on to a team called Manchester United. Being on that team made him a better player and helped him improve his skills. He was also the first ever Portuguese player to join that team and one of the youngest signers. Now he is currently playing for Real Madrid and the top goal scorer on the team. He is also considered one of the top 10 best players in the world.

Cristiano is a hero because he is a great influence to all soccer players around the world. “In 2009 he became the first red to win the FIFA World Player of the year award...” (Manutd). After he received this award he was very modest. He thanked his fans and talked about how there are people that deserved it much more then him. He also said he was very grateful to all his fans and his team for being really supportive. The quote is also another example to show how excellent Ronaldo is at soccer. He is one of the best of this generation. If you are a soccer player he is a great person to look up to. Even if you are not a soccer player he is still a good person to be your role model. If you follow the path he did, working hard and saying no to alcohol and drugs, you can be very successful like he was and still is. “Among Cristiano's biggest pet peeves are smoking, people who don't make an effort and dishonesty” (Veno). This is another reason to show how Cristiano is a good influence. If you want to look up to him as a role model he sets very good examples. There are a lot of kids out there that are starting to get into drugs, but if they are trying to do better they should listen to Cristiano and try to be successful. Don’t smoke, put effort into what you really want to do and you can do whatever you want to do.

Other heroic traits Cristiano Ronaldo shows is that he has a lot of focus, perseverance and dedication. “Cristiano will be one of the first in every morning, he puts in up to six hours a day at United's training ground, but his work does not stop there. The one thing which differentiates Cristiano from a lot of players is that he has a plan” (Qtd. in Strudwick). Cristiano works really hard to become the best at what he does. He works hard every day to improve and barley has time for family and friends. He works out and practices as much as he can. He is focused on being the best at soccer. He perseveres to do better during soccer season. He also preserves to keep his family safe and stays close to god and is very religious. He has a lot of dedication to his sport. He tries his best and tries to keep his fans and teammates happy. “Fast and tricky, Ronaldo possesses a thunderous dipping, swerving shot and is one of the most dangerous set-piece exponents in the game, I have nothing but praise for the boy. He is easily the best player in the world. He is better than Kaka and better than Messi. He is streets ahead of them all. His contribution as a goal threat is unbelievable. His stats are incredible. Strikes at goal, attempts on goal, raids into the penalty box, headers. It is all there. Absolutely astounding." (Ferguson). This is another way to show that Cristiano is a brilliant player. Even though he grew up on a small island hardly anybody knows about he still worked really hard to get attention of famous coaches. Once he did he did not stop there he continued to strive to be the best. He proved through hard work and never giving up you can achieve any goal that you set your mind to. He is the perfect person to look up to if you ever need a role model in your life.

Cristiano Ronaldo is an inspiration to everybody because he proved through hard work, focus and determination, anybody can achieve anything or any goal. “Officially the best football [soccer] player on the planet in 2009” (Manutd). When he was 12 he was known for being the greatest player on his island of his age group. He believed in himself and knew that he could be an excellent soccer player, he kept on believing in himself and finally got what he wanted. Now he is living his dream because he puts a lot of effort and hard work into what he does. “Ronaldo flew to Indonesia to visit the areas affected by the tsunami and to raise funds, and raised over 1 billion rupiah by auctioning off his personal sports gear” (Spiritus). Cristiano is also a very caring and generous person because he took the time out of his busy schedule to fly to Indonesia to help out people that have nothing. He also took a little boy, who was a flood victim, back with him and gave him and his family free seats to a world cup game. He also likes to go back to his island to help out little kids with soccer and influence them to work harder. He also got his soccer team involved with UNICEF. Cristiano is so caring and working to be the best, he is always influencing people to do better and work harder, he is beyond doubt a hero to the world and athletes everywhere.
