Marcus Tullius Cicero

by Amat from Fremont

Born to a wealthy family in 106 B.C., Cicero got the best of education in Athens. He then became a lawyer and then he was elected consul of Rome! He was the second most powerful person in the world at the mere age of 30!

He was a strong supporter of the Republic and he was invited to take part in the first triumvirate but he declined for he feared they would try to overthrow the republic. He opposed Julius Caesar’s efforts to become king.

But he was shocked when Caesar was killed. After that Cicero came in public favor by overwhelming numbers over Marc Antony.

After Antony’s death, Cicero was made a public hero. Octavian said, ”He was a learned man who loved his country.”

Cicero is my hero because he defended the Roman Republic single handedly.
