My hero was a legend of a whole generation. That is the reason why he is MY HERO.
His name is Kurt Donald Cobain and he was the leader of the grunge band Nirvana, that redefined the sound of the nineties.
Kurt was born on the 20th of February in year 1967 in Hoquaim, a small town 140 kilometers south-west of Seattle. His mother was a cocktail-waitress and his father was an auto mechanic.
Cobain had a very lucky childhood, because he always walked around with a smiling face. As Kurt Cobain used to be hyperactive, he got medicine but now he could not sleep at night. So he got another medicine for that problem.
When he was eight Kurt's parents got divorced. After his parents divorce, Cobain drew pictures and played the guitar that he had got for his 14th birthday. With the help of his aunt he discovered many punk and rock bands, like the Beatles, Lead Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and the Pixies.
By 1985 when he was 18. Aberdeen was dead and Cobain's next stop was the town of Olympia. Kurt Cobain formed and reformed a series of bands before Nirvana came into being in 1986.
Smells Like Teen Spirit became Nirvana’s highly acclaimed song and they sold ten million copies. The 24 years old Cobain was shocked. He did not want to be a hero. In the early 90's Cobain fell into drug use. In February 1992 Kurt skipped off to Hawaii to marry Courtney Love. Today the woman is an actress, but she still plays in her own rock band, called the Hole.
In August 1992 Kurt Donald Cobain was admitted into hospital for treatment of heroin abuse, shortly after his daughter Frances Bean Cobain was born.
On March the 4th Cobain was rushed to hospital in a coma after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. One year later on the 5th April 1994 Cobain’s body was found on the floor of the garage behind his house.
When the police broke down the door they found Kurt Cobain dead on the floor and they found a suicide note written in red ink addressed to his wife Courtney Love and his 19 month old daughter Frances Bean.
Although he made self-destructive choices that ultimately led to his death, I will remember him for his contribution to rock music.
