Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.

by April from LeRoy

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., or more commonly known as Lil Wayne or Weezy, was born on September 27, 1982 in Hollygrove (a little neighborhood in New Orleans) New Orleans, Louisiana. One of his albums went platinum after just the first week! He prefers to be called “Wayne” because he wanted to be separate from his father, whose name was also Dwayne, and his father isn’t in his life now and never was. Not having his biological father, he cared a lot about his stepfather, Reginald "Rabbit" Carter. When Wayne was still a young boy, Reginald was abducted and murdered.

Wayne was a straight A student in high school but dropped out at the age of 14 then later got his GED. He enrolled at the University of Houston and obtained good grades. While he was attending school, Wayne started working with Bryan Williams (owner of Cash Money Records); he tried to do whatever he could, from helping the rappers around the office to getting them things in the studio. Wayne wrote his first rap song at the age of 8. He later joined with Cash Money Records and started rapping with the group Hot Boys, they produced his first album in 1999. After a couple years with the group, they split up and Wayne went solo.

Even though Wayne was lucky enough to start his music career at such a young age, he still did some regrettable things that would soon land him in trouble.

Lil Wayne is very inspirational because he has managed to live a very successful life, it goes to show that everyone has a knack, a talent, something they can excel at, and that just because you don't fit in to the academic norm, does not mean you will not live a good life. Even though he has made some poor decisions, he has made a very good living and has worked hard to get where he is today. He can proudly be called "The Best Rapper To Ever Live."
