"Crockett was shot at by dozens of our Mexican soldiers but never hit, yet when Crockett shot, he never missed his target," said a Mexican Lieutenant after the Battle of The Alamo. Davy Crockett was born on August 17th, 1786 in Tennessee. He soon became a great American frontiersman, woodsman, congressman, and supposedly the last defender of the Alamo. Davy Crockett is also a hero because he helped fight in Texas for Texan independence in the Texan Revolution. All throughout Crockett's life he has experienced some sort of shooting. Davy Crockett learned to shoot a rifle at eight years old. Later, Crockett enlisted to be a scout in the War of 1812. Then when his enlistment expired, he reenlisted (Joined the war again). Soon he was discharged as a fourth sergeant in 1815 and went home to his family. Soon in the 1830's Crockett started a career at being a congressman. Then later he was defeated in 1835 and failed to be a congressman. He was disgusted by this so he stated, "You can all go to hell and I'm going to Texas!" In November, Davy Crockett left Tennessee to move out to Texas. Soon after, he joined the defense of the Alamo. Davy Crockett is a hero to many because he portrays persistence and valor. Davy Crockett portrays these traits because he sacrificed himself for Texan independence. He shows persistence by defending the Alamo for 13 days against over 1,500 Mexican soldiers with only a little over 200 Alamo defenders. By defending with few men against an army with seven times the men, Davy Crockett shows persistence. Davy Crockett also portrays valor because he defended against over 1,500 Mexican soldiers, in a small area, with only so much ammo, untrained Alamo defenders, and a shortage of gunpowder. The odds of defending the Alamo successfully were very slim. The defense also went on into the night, which was a very difficult time to defend the Alamo. This is considered valor because Davy Crockett defended the Alamo in a very tough position. Now you can see how Davy Crockett portrays valor. He defended of many incoming Mexican soldiers with a seventh of the men. That's how he portrays persistence. Davy Crockett also made some long term effects with his actions. The defense of the Alamo is very iconic. Not just the Alamo itself but Davy Crockett helped make it iconic. Crockett was supposedly the last man alive at the battle, which means he was the last defender of the Alamo. Which gives the Alamo a great defense reputation to this day. Another long lasting effect is Davy Crockett being a great shot. Every time you think of Davy Crockett you think of the Alamo and him being a great shot. This is because a Mexican soldier said that Davy Crockett took out eight Mexican troops. So if someone shot at a bottle one hundred yards away that person would be thinking that they made a shot like Crockett. That's how Davy Crockett made long lasting effects with his actions. Davy Crockett is a heroic icon for a lot of reasons. He started shooting at a very young age. He joined the War of 1812 and was honorably discharged as a fourth sergeant. He was a congressman in 1820-1834. Then he left Tennessee to go to Texas due to his defeat for congress in the 1835. Then when he was at at Texas fighting for the Texan Revolution at the Battle of The Alamo. And that's where Davy Crockett fell as a hero, as the supposedly last man at the Alamo. That's why Davy Crockett is a heroic icon. Maybe if you visit the Alamo you would wonder if Davy Crockett was the last man or was he was one of the first to die? Think about it.
