David Draiman

by Charles from Cornwall

I am Charles Davidson, my hero is David Draiman. He is the singer of the metal band "Disturbed". He is a hero to me because he left almost everything behind to follow his dreams and empowered others to do the same. He has managed to get best band award three times in a row. David Draiman, became a metal singer because of his passion. He has dominated all of his fears and mastered them.

He was born March 13 1973, in New York. He comes from orthodox Jewish family, his grandfather was a Holocaust survivor. He left his family and his beliefs to become a rock star. When he was sixteen his girlfriend committed suicide by hanging herself. When he auditioned for the band Brawl he had decided to change the band's name to Disturbed. Later on after the end of the Believe he had to find a new bass player because he kicked the other one out. He has had to stop the band's performances in Europe because his vocal chords blew out.

He has a quality of being unique. He is unique because he is "disturbed" by how society wants you to blend in so in that he is unique. He is inspiring because he has fans who have made tattoos of his face on themselves. He is a nice person because he has helped people with disabilities to enjoy the show on the stage and forget about their disabilities. He is a very courageous person because he was on a giant symbol which was pretty high and could drop at any moment. He is an artistic person because he designed "the guy" his mascot.

He deserves to be called a hero because he has made an outstanding amount of progress with inspiring the world with his music. He had started auditions for the band in a storage and moved to champs bar and the next time he played there the bar was packed, the paramedics arrived before anyone. He has managed to get best record of the year 3 times in a row. During the end of the Believe cycle he has had to either disband the group or kick out the bass player and he decided he and the band went to far to stop so he kicked out the bass player and started working on the Ten Thousand Fists record. He then found a new bass player when he was auditioning over a hundred of them. When the bass player was about to leave David stopped him and accepted him in the band. A little later during the year he had lost his voice and has had to go through surgery to have his vocal chord repaired, the fans in Europe did not return a single ticket for the concerts, that proves the loyalty that the fans had for David and the rest of the band. During the Indestructible cycle he had made a concert for the soldiers and the troops in the middle- east. One of the sergeants gave him his bronze star of valour because he said that it was as if David and the band were part of his platoon because their music was played before every time they cleared a building or went onto the battlefields and in return David gave his award that he earned to the sergeant. Recently in the year 2010 his dog Lisa Draiman had died, to him the dog was equal to any human being on the planet, so her passing was very hard for him.

He has left everything behind, his family, his religion, all to follow his dreams of becoming a rock star and has went from singing in a bar to going to the Oz Fest and other great concert areas. He has earned many rewards and has sacrificed lots to get there and became one of the best singers in the history of metal bands and has made the record for best band in the world. To me he is a hero because his music made me feel powerful, has encouraged me to be unique, he made me realize how this society wants you to blend in with them, he makes me want to follow my dreams and makes me realize that anything is possible and sometimes sacrifices must sometimes be made to achieve such things.
